The Royal School of Church Music

St John's Church Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM).

We follow the RSCM Training Scheme, which offers a system of progressive grades of membership.

Young singers are given targets, to which they are led step-by-step and rewarded in the form of lapel badges, medals and membership cards, which help each singer to feel a sense of belonging and achievement.

Three members of our choir have gained the Dean's Award, and one has also passed the Bishop's Award. For these awards singers have to take external examinations and we are very pleased with their successes.

Choir members will also have the opportunity to take part in outside musical events, including singing with the RSCM Cathedral Singers in cathedrals all over the South of England, as well as in local events. They are also encouraged to take part in other RSCM events as well as the Peterborough Music Festival. The choir takes part in the Diocesan Choral Festival held annually in the cathedral.

St John's Church follows the Child Protection Guidelines recommended by the Diocese of Peterborough.
